PERSONAL STATEMENT

I started tutoring because I enjoy helping people understand things that initially feel confusing or overwhelming. When I first began, I was tutoring younger students in Singapore, helping them prepare for exams and build confidence in core subjects like Maths and Science. What I found most rewarding was seeing how quickly a student’s attitude changes when the topic becomes clearer. Once they feel like they can actually do it, their confidence grows and the learning becomes more enjoyable.

I’ve had many different tutors throughout high school, and that experience helped me understand how much teaching style affects learning. Some explanations clicked instantly, while others left me more confused, and I realised that the difference was often the way the tutor communicated. Because of that, I focus on explaining concepts in multiple ways until the student finds the approach that works for them. I try to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that’s where real progress happens.

I’m currently studying physics at Imperial College London. Being in education myself means I’m familiar with how exams are structured and what students are expected to do, and I can relate to the pressures they face. My goal is always to make learning feel more manageable and less intimidating, and to help students build confidence in their own abilities.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy photography, dance, and origami. These hobbies help me stay focused and creative, and I think they also influence my teaching style. I try to keep lessons clear and structured, while still being flexible and engaging. Ultimately, I want students to feel more confident, not just in their grades, but in how they approach learning.
