SKILLS & INTERESTS
Writing, prose poetry and short stories
· My main driver, I write every day and spread my work between many mediums, including: morning observations of the pigeons in my garden (a developing soap drama!), weird, winding dystopias, interactive narratives and music-based performances.
· Love for Sci-Fi and Horror, but love to try a bit of everything - especially when collaborating with others
· Participant in numerous projects, ranging from showcases, supporting pieces for Master’s submissions, and even running whole events with my arts collective
Music, often coupled with my writing
· Drummer since childhood; my brain works through literary percussion
· Electronic production with hardware
· Always have a soundtrack to my life; veer towards heavy drum sounds, raised with an Indian Classical singer and a Drummer/ Tabla player
· Fond of experimental soundscapes as a vessel for stories - but I enjoy anything that’s got soul behind it!
Coding, a recently discovered passion that has spilled out across my whole life
· Dream to design interactive fiction/ narrative games
· Learning Python, currently using this to develop my own self-management programmes; very useful in taking control over my ADHD symptoms!
Games
· Avid gamer, particularly narrative driven experiences that whisk you away to other worlds
· Board game fan, love to bring together friends and strangers for friendly (often heated) competition
Books, Film and Shows
· I love to get lost in storylines and characters. Grew up with my nose in a book whenever I wasn’t chattering away to someone; threads throughout my studies and other mediums today!
· Genre inclusive: from Westworld to Atlanta, Ghibli films to Alien, romance to comedy - a good drama can be just as action packed as a space war!
Social Sides
· I will always be a people person, at my happiest locked into conversation about everything and nothing
· I am energised by others, listen as much as I talk (which is a lot!), to find friends and interest in the smallest of shares
· More than anything, winning together as a team drives me through time, and is why I have come back to tutoring with endless excitement!
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Copywriting
- Consumer Research and Marketing
- Creative Writing, both personal projects and collaborative/ commissioned work
- Hospitality, alongside all my previous studies - working socially-focused jobs since the age of 13
PERSONAL STATEMENT
To me, a tutor’s power and fulfilment is found in a student’s own passion, to be a guide on their very personal journey through the winding, non-linear path of education. I am lucky enough to have experienced both sides of this relationship, now bringing long-term experience with refreshed approaches to my students.
I started my own tutoring ventures as a teenager, working my way through word-of-mouth all the way into my university years. I learned to listen, respond, and adapt to my students across a wide spectrum of academic needs, finding best results by mixing my expertise with friendly energy. My fondest memory is of a Saturday school student, a very lively, funny yet ‘disruptive’ young man who just “didn’t really like English”; after a few jokes and some conversation, I transmuted his assignments into analogous questions on his own interests in football, ran through them with success, then finished with instant completion of his assignment… no questions asked!
This example sticks with me today after my own experiences. I’d found academia natural in younger ages, excelling by coasting through until A-Levels hit me like a train; resits, missed deadlines, setbacks, all plagued my early adulthood, even when pursuing my love of literature in my English BA. However, after a lot of self-reflection, a very late ADHD diagnosis, hard work, and - most importantly - acceptance of external support, I’ve found a successful path through my graduation and into the next chapter. I am now completely in love with my subject, excited by research, able to merge productivity with enjoyment in all areas of life - all because I worked with those who took the time to understand me.
It would be my greatest pleasure be that guide for your child, share my methods and learnings, and help them find joy their own way!
