TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Peer Support Mentor - QEH Sixth Form
Met weekly with a group of pupils in the senior school (aged 12-14) as part of a support programme centered around adjusting to secondary education and GCSEs. Discussions were an opportunity for pupils to outline social/academic concerns and to receive advice on how to go about addressing concerns with members of staff and direct feedback on specific academic issues (normally homework help).Received safe-guarding and mental health training.
Casual Tutoring - QEH Sixth Form
Met with 2 peers who were struggling to complete their history and english literature coursework pieces and helped them plan their research and the outline of their essays, shared resources and demonstrated how to write within the required structures by translating examiner remarks.

SKILLS & INTERESTS
I spend my free time either reading, writing for my philosophy substack page, sketching, or editing my own film/digitally shot photography on photoshop. My favourite book is Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace which I highly recommend even though it is very long as I find Wallace’s writing sincere and inspiring given the breadth of the text which covers varsity sports, mental health, and film. I would consider my interests largely artistic largely thanks to my mother’s influence having spent my childhood going out to galleries together although. I do sometimes play basketball and football with my brother.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Queen- Shilling Nightclub Bartender
Serving mixed and draught drinks to a 300+ guest capacity venue, handling cash transactions, managing stock and welcoming customers at a venue in Bristol.
Transdermal Diagnostics - Research Co-Applicant
Corresponded with a medical research company to produce and edit materials to be shown to young patients concerning the research and development of a new wearable, diabetic blood glucose sensor.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
To me, tutoring is an excellent opportunity to get something more personal out of work. In my sessions, I aim to tackle tutee’s academic challenges with a more friendly approach as I understand that the challenges of exams often produce an anxiety which can become overwhelming for young people. In spending time talking to pupils and actually getting to the root of issues, our time together can be better spent with a direct focus on these problems rather than mere course overviews. This approach in the past has made pupils far more welcome to receiving the help they need rather than seeing sessions as another iteration of classroom learning. I also believe the key to good tutoring is spending time outside of sessions preparing materials, rather than regurgitating what a tutee has already been given. As such, sessions will take the shape of spending some time listening directly to the pupil in order to get a better view of what needs work, and then planning together how to tackle these tasks, through exercises and tutorials. I have a strong academic background in essay writing for the humanities, strengthened by presentations I have given in both sixth form and university, while also experienced in STEM subjects.
