PERSONAL STATEMENT

A great teacher can completely change how a student feels about a subject. What I became most passionate about in my own studies often had as much to do with the teachers I had as the material itself, and that's what drew me to tutoring: the chance to help students get excited about learning by connecting it to the real world and showing them why it matters. I also believe tutoring plays an important role in pushing back on the idea that success comes down to natural ability. When students decide they "just aren't good at" a subject, they stop investing in the study skills and persistence that actually drive progress, creating a self-perpetuating cycle that does real damage. I know this firsthand. I wasn't a strong student in primary school, but I was fortunate that my parents and teachers didn't write me off—they believed I could do well if I chose to. Because of that, I didn't write myself off either, and when I became more interested in school, I trusted that hard work would pay off, and it did. I bring that same belief to every student I tutor; with the right support, encouragement, and habits, they can thrive in subjects they once thought weren't for them.
