SKILLS & INTERESTS

When I am not teaching, I enjoy watching and playing sports (football, rugby, squash, badminton) with varying levels of skill. I also love to cook to unwind and read if I’ve got any energy left in the evening.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I believe learning should inspire curiosity and confidence. My love of English literature has shaped my teaching career, which spans Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 as well as eye-opening experiences teaching in India and Japan. Working in such varied settings, I have developed the ability to connect with learners of all backgrounds and abilities and adapt  to different needs and expectations.

One of the most formative influences on my approach was experiencing the Oxford tutorial system. Those one-to-one discussions with expert tutors showed me how much passion and motivation can be unlocked through personalised guidance. I bring that ethos into my own tutoring: listening closely, challenging thinking, and tailoring sessions to the individual. I quickly build positive relationships with my students, grounded in empathy and enthusiasm for literature and learning. I understand that not everyone starts with a love for English, but I believe it is a vital life skill — essential for clear communication, critical thinking, and understanding different perspectives. Through targeted, one-to-one support, I aim to help students find their own motivation and take pride in their progress. My lessons are purposeful and enjoyable, centred on challenging texts which help students grapple with the big questions literature asks: what does it mean to be human? What do we owe each other? Can we ever truly know another person? I believe it is the right of every student to engage with these questions, and my privilege as a tutor to empower them to do so. If you are looking for a tutor who combines expertise with a genuine passion for helping students develop their minds, I would be delighted to work with you.
