PERSONAL STATEMENT

Having grown up with a lot after-school tutorial support, I was able to grow and thrive both academically and artistically. I spent my formative years in Hong Kong and later attended Epsom College for my sixth form education. I am a strong believer that providing children with the right opportunities can make a world of difference.

My deep-rooted background in the arts is long-standing and is coupled with strong communication, research, analytical, leadership and teamwork skills. Since graduating from Goldsmiths College, I invested a substantial period of time in developing my art practice. I took every opportunity to extend my practice, exhibit my works and forge strong networks within the artistic community of Hong Kong and London.

Through moving between cultural spheres and continents, moments prompted me to reflect the varied cultures and contested histories that have been clumsily framed into the unique emotional and existential sensibilities of the shifting landscape of Hong Kong and London.

I particularly enjoy art from both countries, and therefore, I am able to provide both cultural and linguistic development for pupils. I previously attended Central Saint Martins and Goldsmiths, University of London. I enjoy teaching in a structured manner with a range of supporting materials that align with existing coursework materials or books. I can adapt and design suitable teaching materials based on students’ needs.

As a creative mind, I explore many strategies that are tailored for each individual child; working at their required pace. I work to the strengths of each child, providing them with opportunities to reach their full academic potential, through interesting and engaging sessions.

Most recently, I have tutored a group of 3 young children Art. The focus of the lessons was to encourage students to keep an open mind, as experimenting with various painting/drawing techniques and responding to a theme or concept will be very valuable and make their artistic practice richer. They showed great progress within a short period of 6 weeks and there were no shortage of remarkable ideas.

In addition, I hold the Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSC) certificate and achieved Grade 3 Level A*. I understand what it is like to learn a new language and that for some students this is more challenging than for others. My flexible and adaptable approach to learning ensures the ‘classroom’ is a nurturing and engaging one to be in.

I love connecting with each student to find out how they learn best, in order to help them achieve and surpass their desired grades — and hopefully have some fun along the way!
