PERSONAL STATEMENT

If there is one thing that my four years at University College London made me realize, is that I have a true and inner passion for learning. The liberal arts nature of my degree allowed me to study subjects in a variety of departments, including languages and allowed me to really satisfy my curiosity. This passion for learning first externalized itself via my love for academia and research. Having worked as a research assistant at UCL’s School of Public Policy while still a student, and one dissertation and degree later, I realized that my passion wasn’t for research itself, but rather for the fact of discovering and learning something new every day, which in my opinion is inherent of research. After graduating from UCL with a First Class Honours (Dean's List inclusion), I concentrated on tutoring students from a variety of backgrounds, and in the process of this, the passion I have for learning became very obvious when it came to teaching others. I don't just want others to learn something new, but I want them to feel this passion I have myself for learning, my thirst for knowledge, for learning something new every day. What a better way to be a tutor than to feel yourself like the 'eternal student'. I believe everyone deserves to have the encouragement, confidence and tools to succeed, and for me tutoring is a way to facilitate this. I like getting to know my students, and making sure they feel like I am someone close and easy to talk to. I believe this allows me to create a safe environment for my students, including many that were insecure about their own abilities, in turn allowing them to let go of those insecurities, and to gain the confidence and skills required to do well academically, and more importantly, allowing them to believe in themselves and their own ability.
