13+ Common Entrance
Many Boarding Schools and Prep Schools for boys do 13+ Entrance Exams. The exams take place in January of Year 8 for London Day schools and in June of Year 8 for many boarding schools . Some schools such as Eton and Harrow offer pre-tests to be taken in Year 6 so that they can offer a conditional place for Year 9 (depending on how they perform during the 13+ test), or can be invited for the Scholarship Exam. These need to be booked 2 years in advance. Once successful, candidates will be asked to interview.
There are many more subjects tested in 13+ compared to 11+. Students can expect to sit exams for English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Languages. Many of the top schools have their own additional entry requirements to ensure they select only the finest students.
Many London day schools write their own exam papers and many boarding school common entrance use ISEB (Independent School Examinations Board) exam papers.
