PERSONAL STATEMENT

I first became interested in tutoring when I moved to the U.K from my homeland Ukraine 7 years ago. Coming here allowed me to discover the teaching methodology that I have never been acquainted with before, but which greatly impressed and fascinated me – applying learnt material to a range of unforeseen problems, rather than pre-learning pages and pages of content to then lay it out on a blank exam page was foreign to me, and the more I worked towards changing my customary learning habits, the more I wanted to share my newly-acquired skills with the students back at home, as I believed them to be at a disadvantage: given the number of children in Ukraine that I knew aspired to study abroad, I grew more and more conscious of the difficulties they were going to encounter upon their relocation to the U.K, Switzerland, America or elsewhere. Identifying this imminent issue – the problem of uncreative teaching – inspired me to commit myself to attempting to single-handedly change the standard of education in Ukraine – it motivated me to start tutoring students that aspired to study abroad, not only with the purpose of improving their English proficiency, but also, introducing them to a scope of advanced study skills, which they’d never get to know otherwise. My first student was the son of a Ukrainian lady that got in touch with me online: having seen my tutoring campaign on Instagram, she trusted me to prepare her son for his upcoming studies in Austria. Her trust and faith in me and my vision encouraged me, meanwhile her son’s drive, ambition, and efforts inspired me to learn something new every day to make sure I am able to teach him even better in every next class. After his successful departure to Austria 2 years later, where he soon found himself among the top students in his class, I decided to explore tutoring further. This decision led me to gaining a significant base of clients of all ages, levels and backgrounds – children and adults, with an impressive scope of personal and academic goals, which I learned to fulfil as a tutor and mentor. I am successful in my tutoring pursuit because I always aim to form a friendship and have a conversation with my tutees, so that together, we can establish a mission that feels personal to us both and start our own movement, the outcome of which is always the realisation of their academic dreams and the discovery of their full potential!
