PERSONAL STATEMENT

Hello, my name is Leah and I'm an economics student at the LSE. I'm from Tottenham in North London, I come from mixed heritage being both English and St Lucian. I tutor maths and economics up to a level as well as the 11+. My hobbies include going to the gym, crochet and reading.

I first became interested in tutoring when I tutored an 8-year-old with her homework and general topics. 4 years later I'm still tutoring her, watching her progress through academic years and having a wonderful start to secondary school. Having a student for such a long time made it enjoyable to watch her grow in confidence and ability as well a look forward to facing new challenges. Since then, I have tutored other students more short-term ranging from primary to GCSE level. I believe in providing a tailored service to a student’s ability as that can't be experienced in a class setting. I remember how it was to under a teacher’s radar in school and not be pushed to try harder, so I want to encourage others to gain stability in school as well as try harder things and embrace the challenge rather as see it as something to fear. As someone still in education I still have a vast familiarity with the education system as well as a sense of kindredness between students due to how well I understand them. Overall, I hope to equip my students with confidence in their ability as well as familiarity with their curriculum to progress in school as well as find enjoyment in learning.
